Years five and six pupils at Chilton Foliat Primary School have moved into their purpose-built, new classroom following an extensive fundraising campaign to raise £85,000 to complete the project, which includes the new Chilton Foliat Community Clubhouse.
The school’s spacious and bright new classroom houses ‘Sika’ class, which had outgrown its previous home, and the improved environment will undoubtedly stimulate creativity and provide an ideal setting for both teaching and learning. ‘Sika’ is one of four classes in the school which are all named after deer, with a stag being the school emblem and the school situated on Stag Hill.
The next phase of the project will be to complete the other half of the new building for the community clubhouse which will provide space for Chilton Club Childcare which runs the school’s Early Birds Club, After School Club and Holiday Club. The space will also be available for use by the local community.
Additional work carried out during the summer holidays included an extension to the school hall to create a larger, brighter space, so the whole school can fit in the hall and enjoy lunchtime together and newly renovated pupil toilets. The school Governors were also busy over the summer, having painted the exterior woodwork of the main school and refreshed the Early Years’ play area ready for many hours of learning through play!
The school and the Chilton Foliat Community Association have worked hard to raise funds for the new building and the school community is grateful to the many individuals and organisations who so generously contributed towards the project. The school is particularly grateful to local firms, D.G. Rhodes Ground Work Limited, ErgoPlus Facilities Limited and Hart & Co Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Ltd, which have demonstrated such commitment and done an incredible job for the school community.
“We are over the moon with the new classroom and the improvements made to the main school building, which will enhance the day-to-day lives of all our pupils and are hugely grateful for all the hard work from both contractors and the school community,” comments Katie Turner, headteacher at Chilton Foliat Primary School. “We are really looking forward to the next phase – the new clubhouse – being up and running within the next few weeks.”
The school will be showcasing its new facilities during its open mornings on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October.
