Aster Communities’ planning application to build two houses on an area at Newby Acre of “informal open amenity space” and land used for parking cars has been refused by Wiltshire Council planning officers.
The officers said that the land to be built on provided a ‘visual break’ in the existing ‘high density’ development. They said the loss of amenity space as ‘Green Infrastructure’ would be contrary to Wiltshire Core Policy 52.
Explaining a second reason for their refusal, they pointed out that the neighbouring property (47 Newby Acre) ‘is in close proximity and oriented towards the application site’ and the new homes would ‘have an overbearing impact that would materially impact on the residential use and enjoyment of the property.’
This application was roundly condemned by Marlborough town councillors when their planning committee objected to the application.
The rejection by Wiltshire Council of a second application by Aster Communities (again through RCC Town Planning Consultants) is being appealed. That application was for a building containing two one bedroom flats in a space between existing houses.
