Devizes MP Danny Kruger will be attending a meeting of Marlborough’s business owners – and anyone else for whom going to the Bank is important – at The Parade Cinema on Thursday 2 May at 5.30pm. Last month Lloyds announced that their Marlborough branch in the High Street, where the bus stop is on the North side will be closing in November. Following the closure of Barclays a short while ago Marlborough will be without any High Street Bank branches, in the High Street, or anywhere else.
The meeting will be primarily for Marlborough’s businesses, retailers mainly, for whom a visit to the bank is important, be it to deposit cash at the end of the day or one of many other possible needs, and what can be done in future.
Elsewhere ‘Banking Hubs’ have appeared where any bank customers can come and use the core banking services available. Recently one such hub opened in Royal Wootton Bassett and it is Government policy that hubs appear in High Streets where the traditional banks are no more.
Thursday’s meeting is being organised by Marlborough’s Business Networking, but it’s open to anyone for whom High Street Banking facilities are important and need to be continued in Marlborough.
