Marlborough LitFest is delighted to be the beneficiary of a ten-year annual donation from the late Susie Fisher, a local Marlborough resident and keen supporter of the festival from the start.
US-born but settled in Marlborough for more than 20 years, Susie Fisher was known locally for her philanthropy to the arts. She was a frequent visitor to The White Horse Bookshop and supported local artists as much as possible. She chaired the Jazz Festival for three years, was heavily involved in the more recent Marlborough Rising Festival, and was especially supportive of The Merchant’s House, Katharine House Gallery and The Parade Cinema.
Susie supported LitFest from its launch in 2010 (with just 14 events) and was a much-valued Golden Friend, enabling the festival to grow and thrive over the past 15 years. Her enthusiasm and passion will be much missed by the festival as well as the local community.
Michelle Sylvester, Susie’s daughter, said: “I am honoured to bring you the first instalment of this ten-year gift for this annual festival that meant so much to my mother. She loved reading, she loved meeting authors and she loved buying books for her granddaughter to read.”
Genevieve Clarke, LitFest Chair, said: “Susie was a true Friend of LitFest from the start and we were so grateful for her generous support each year. It’s really wonderful that she has remembered us in this way.”
Marlborough LitFest celebrates its 15th year with a packed programme full of more than 40 events offering a myriad of topics for all ages across the festival weekend from 26-29 September 2024.
