This morning the Town Council is starting the process to appoint a successor Councillor to follow the sadly departed Councillor Bryan Castle.
A successor was found, they were selected by a process of ‘co-option’ but then, for personal reasons that new Councillor decided that they could not take up the position. Hence the process starts again.
As from this morning the Town Council website is running the following: “If you are interested in joining us you can download the application pack below, or please contact the Town Clerk, Mr Richard Spencer-Williams, if you would like to discuss the vacancy or would like us to send you a paper copy of the application documents.”
The application pack can be accessed or downloaded by clicking here.
Being a Town Councillor is an important role within the community. Normally Councillors will be elected by the community, open elections with Councillors representing either the ‘Marlborough East’ or Marlborough West’ wards, there being sixteen places to be filled.
It’s a role that enables residents with an issue that requires resolution to talk to their Councillor about, someone they may well know, but above all, someone who is accessible and can do something, even if that ‘something’ is explaining who to get in contact with (at Wiltshire Council – if it’s beyond the remit of the Town Council) or even local MP, Danny Kruger if the issue is beyond even the responsibility of the Local authority.
But above all, a local Town Councillor will be able to become that first and most important point of access for help.
But the role goes far further than that as what is decided in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall affects the community of Marlborough, Manton and the surrounding area in many other ways – not least Planning, Traffic, and many others as well.
Interested? Click above to get the application pack which explains all the necessary qualification criteria as well as explaining the ‘co-option’ process. Or in current parlance, become an ‘Influencer’ for and within the Town
And good luck, it’s an important role…….

Marlborough Dark Skies Fest a starry success
