Mention ‘The Polly’ to anyone in areas far away from here and the answer will often be ‘Marlborough’. The Polly is famous. It’s a part of Marlborough’s renowned High Street, almost a fixture and definitely a landmark. Interested? It’s up for sale – £460,000 and here is the link to the selling agents – Everett Masson & Furby
The Polly has had a tough few years. Two years ago marlborough.news reported on the finding of a tribunal that fined the business nearly £10,000 for racially abusing a member of staff, and recently the Government named the business as one of those not paying their staff minimum wage.
But in spite of all this The Polly has proved popular, and as the figures shown in the ‘for sale’ document show, potentially it’s a very strong business. It should be, for many visitors to the town, it is Marlborough……
Plenty of competition, the High Street is now awash with coffee and charity shops, but The Polly has always been just that bit different. Once, back in the sixties it was a four story building, but in 1966 a fire rampaged through the three upper floors but the ground floor was saved, and since then it’s always been that single story with a big gap up above.
The Polly offers history, heritage and just that ‘something else’ that every business wants but can’t always deliver. Interested? could be yours……..
