Noel Barrett-Morton will be the next mayor of Marlborough, it was agreed last night. Councillor Barrett-Morton has been deputy mayor for the past year.
He will succeed councillor Margaret Rose on May 9. His deputy will be councillor Mervyn Hall.
Councillor Barrett-Morton was swept to victory in an October 2011 by-election, sparked by the resignation of Conservative councillor Martin Houlden.
The 72-year-old Conservative had a long career in civil aviation before founding a financial services business.
He sits on the planning and finance & policy committees, and is chairman of the council’s property committee.
Councillor Mervyn Hall (62), a retired chartered engineer with a diploma in electronics, was co-opted onto Marlborough Town Council in June 2013 as an Independent.
