Nick Fogg, already twice Mayor of Marlborough, respected author, fellow of the Royal History Society, acclaimed authority on the Bard – William Shakespeare, impressario for decades (and creator) of the renowned Marlborough International Jazz Festival, former long-term Wiltshire Councillor and much, much more is very likely to be Marlborough’s Mayor for the year 2023-24.
Why only ‘likely to be’? Because at this stage he’s been nominated for the role, the sole nominee and this will be tested by vote at the ‘extra-ordinary meeting’ of the Town Council, called for Monday evening next week (06 February) at the Town Hall, commencing at 7pm.
Nick told Marlborough.news: “I’m honoured to have been asked to serve for the third time. In these somewhat depressed times, let’s hope we can show that a sense of fun is never far away.”
But being the only nominated candidate, if unsuccessful in gaining the backing of all the Councillors present the appointment would not go ahead, but then Marlborough’s Town Council would have a problem…. Who….? So, very likely to the point of almost a certainty, but we can’t state definitely so. (See the agenda for the meeting – Item 5)
However, for the role of his Deputy there are two Councillors nominated – Cllr Kymee Cleasby and James Sheppard.
The opportunity for Cllr Fogg has arisen due to the current Deputy Mayor, Cllr Don Heath having to stand down from the Council in May at the end of his term as Deputy Mayor due to relocation.
Marlborough.news will publish the results of the election(s) once votes have been finalised.
