Lots of time, effort and – of course – money has gone into Marlborough’s Scout Hut over the past year or so to make it the attractive, usable and smart community facility that it now is. Not yet finished, some internal work still to be done to make it complete, but It’s not just for the Scouts. It’s for all groups in and around Marlborough for them to use. And now, with a new roof, cladding, insulation and much more it is that space that the Scouts and other groups can use all year round.
But more good news for the 2nd Marlborough Scout Group: Waitrose have restarted their ‘Green Token’ scheme and when you do your shop in Waitrose, putting the green token in the ‘Scouts’ box will help deliver the funding for their necessary equipment for doing ‘all things Scouting’, meaning the kit such as pioneering poles, stationary and camping equipment.
Tesco are also helping as well, through their ‘Blue Token’ scheme. Funding from here will be going towards the cost of their annual group camp where, according to Donna, Chair of the 2nd Marlborough Scout Group, “We take some of our young people away on the last May Bank Holiday weekend for a long weekend”.
But the relaunched Waitrose scheme isn’t just benefiting 2nd Marlborough Scouts. Recipients of your choosing are also Marlborough St Mary’s and Alzheimer’s Support Wiltshire.
Future fundraising events for 2nd Marlborough Scouts include Tesco Bag Pack Saturday (6 December) and Waitrose Bag Pack Saturday (20 December). In each case young people will be there at the tills to help pack the shoppers’ bags, for a donation, of course. And other activities as well, details of which will be forthcoming.
So the Scout Hut is set fair to be used, not just by the Scouts but by any groups in the Community and now it’s insulated, no leaks and looking very smart – perfectly habitable and offering a good sized community space.
