Plans for how Marlborough will celebrate the historic Platinum Jubilee, June 2-5, are well under way. There will be a High Street Party, beacon lighting, community campfire, flower and food festival, a Great Marlborough Bake-off competition, parades of classic cars, tea-dance, tree planting, the Rotary Royal Platinum Picnic on the Common and much more. Chaired by Cllrs Farrell and Luson, the working party that is co-ordinating the events now needs more volunteers.
Clare Harris, Assistant Town Clerk, said, “All the ideas and comments from the public meeting on January 18 have been put into a draft programme. We now need some more volunteers for some of our sub groups.
A programme of all the events will be published so we would also like to hear from anyone who is arranging their own street party or event so we can include them. Please contact me on charris@marlborough-tc.gov.uk.”
The sub-groups requiring more volunteer support include: The Great Marlborough Bake-Off Competition, High Street Party, Older persons, Bunting and children’s resources.
Marlborough’s Mayor, Cllr Mark Cooper, said, “It’s excellent the way the community is coming together to celebrate a really special time. I know it’s going to be a wonderful few days.”
