Marlborough LitFest has a cunning plan… to bring the actor, author, historical expert and presenter, Sir Tony Robinson, to Marlborough in the autumn. In an additional LitFest event after the main festival (25-28 September 2025), Robinson will be talking about his career and his debut novel, The House of Wolf, at Marlborough Town Hall on Tuesday 21 October 2025 at 7pm. Priority booking for Friends of LitFest opens on 6 September; general Box Office opens on 15 September.
The iconic Baldrick in the Blackadder series and long-time presenter of Time Team, Robinson makes his fictional debut for adults with The House of Wolf, the first in a new historical series (The House of Aethelwolf) spanning the Anglo-Saxons, Alfred the Great and the making of England. Published in September, this book is said to be perfect for fans of Ken Follett and Bernard Cornwell and has been praised by historian Dan Jones as ‘A page-turner full of historical intelligence, wit and heart’.
Robinson is one of Britain’s foremost faces of popular history as presenter of 20 seasons of Channel 4’s archaeology series Time Team and creator of the worldwide
icon Baldrick in the Blackadder TV series. He started out at the age of 13 in Oliver! and has gone on to enjoy a long career as an actor in theatre, TV drama and sitcom, and as an acclaimed presenter of documentary and factual television.
He is also the author of over 30 award-winning children’s books and several adult non-fiction books, including an autobiography, No Cunning Plan. An ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society since 2008, Sir Tony received a knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2013.
Mary-Vere Parr, Festival Chair, said: “We are delighted that Sir Tony Robinson is coming to Marlborough to talk about a book with so much resonance for the town. Hearing his wise and witty take on the Anglo-Saxons a stone’s throw from the historic Marlborough Mound will add a thrill to a very special evening.”
Tickets for Sir Tony Robinson’s event can be bought in person from The White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough (please note the bookshop cannot take orders by telephone) or online click here. Priority booking for Friends of LitFest opens on 6 September; general Box Office opens on 15 September.
