This week prize-winning, Ramsbury based eco-friendly IT recycling experts, Green Machine Computers has donated refurbished phones and laptops to local Ukrainians. This is the second time the company has made such a donation to the local Ukrainian community. There is no doubt that these donations will be life changing for the Ukrainians, who fled their country with few possessions.
Simon Crisp, Managing Director of Green Machine Computers, said, “We are very pleased to be able to support our local Ukrainian community and several other charities in this way. Green Machines is on a mission to fight tech poverty. In a technological age, those without IT equipment have a significant disadvantage. Access to current technology is no longer a privilege but a necessity. We want to help as many people as possible and have partnered with a charity called the Tech Hub CIC. We are grateful to Tech Hub CIC for the funding that has made this donation possible.
Iryna, one of our local Ukrainians, told Marlborough.news, “Thank you for the amazing gift and the incredible support.”
In the past few years Green Machine computers have donated thousands of electronic devices to people in need, this included: Afghan refugees, Ukrainian refugees, domestic abuse survivors, school children in the UK and in Africa, families in poverty, local non-profits working to protect the environment, and many more. Not only does this have a huge impact on the people involved, but it also helps to reduce pollution too. Each desktop computer that gets refurbished by Green Machine, lowers carbon emissions by around 150kgs. In addition, by reusing the core components found in technology, the company reduces the need for gold mining and other hazardous processes for extracting natural resources.
And the work Green Machine Computers do in the community has not gone unrecognized. In 2022 the company was awarded the following: The Community Champion – Community Business of the Year(The Chamber Business Awards 2022); Commitment to the Community Award(The Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2022); and Outstanding Commitment to the Community(The Great British Business Awards 2022).
More recently Simon Crisp has been awarded Business Leader of the Year in both The Southwest Business Awards 2023(regional) and The Great British Business Awards 2023(national). The judges commented, “Rarely do you find business leaders who are as compassionate, caring and selfless. Simon is a unique business leader, he genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his staff. Under his leadership the company has grown and is making a huge impact nationally! What a great example of authentic leadership! Well done!”
Next week Green Machine are finalists in the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Sustainability Award.
