
This coming Sunday – 27th April – former Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan will be at Port Hill running a ‘Bright Ideas for Tennis’ Open day for Marlborough Tennis between 10am and 3pm. This will be a fundraiser for disadvantaged kids and youth development as part of a free tennis programme run by the club.
This will be at the end of a big week for Marlborough Tennis as trhree days prevously, on Thursday (24 April) Marlborough Tennis has two national finalists for ‘Club of the Year’ and Hilda Moore for ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the LTA National Awards.
Bright Ideas for Tennis was started by Danny Sapsford. Danny reached a ranking of 170 in the world and got through to the third round of Wimbledon in 1999. A few years earlier in 1991 he qualified for and and won a round in the US Open. Also reached the world top 100 ranking for doubles.
Luke reached the third round at Wimbledon in 1999 only to be knocked out by the other main British star – Tim Henman. In 1996 he represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup. Turning to coaching in 2003, Luke has coached several top British players including Laura Robson, Arvind Parmar and Anne Keothavong.

Even if you don’t play, come along to enjoy the exhibition match. Marlborough coaches including Neil Watts, Elliott Kami will play with Danny and Luke. Neil played professionally and reached a British high ranking of 13 and an ATP tour ranking of 814 for singles and 849 for doubles. This promises to be some great tennis.
