Woodborough CE Primary School pupils were in for a surprise when they arrived at school on Monday. During the weekend the school had been transformed into a Christmas winter wonderland. Tessa Hickey, a parent, led a team of school community members to decorate the approach to the school with bunches of foliage, big stars made out of branches and a large Christmas tree with lights. And the decorations continue inside the school where a Christmas scene has been painted over the school hall windows using a Danish technique using buttermilk. Pupils have been invited to add to the decorations in the coming days by bringing in natural decorations from home.

Headteacher, Katie Scaplehorn, said, “It looks amazing and really creates a festive feel. It’s great that all the school community have come together in this way. I have received emails from local people who are appreciating the decorations, especially at night with the all the lights. I would encourage readers of Marlborough.news to come and take a look.”
Pupils are busy rehearsing not one but two nativity plays to be held before the end of term. A special Christmas performance will be held next week involving the whole school with Year 2 pupils taking the lead roles. On the last day of term there is a traditional service in Woodborough Church.

The school is also running a special Christmas Stay and Play for children under 5 on Friday December 12th from 10 to 11. This will include a visit to see Father Christmas in his grotto who will read the children a story and present them each with a present. The PTA members will be creating the grotto and also running craft workshops.
Katie Scaplehorn commented, “We have an incredible PTA and very hardworking staff who together go the extra mile to create some really special experiences for our pupils.”
