During the night of Thursday-Friday (June 18-19), the cash point at the Fraser’s Budgens store and petrol station at the Salisbury Road roundabout in Marlborough was broken into.
Thieves smashed the front of the machine and then tried to set fire to it.
Marlborough News Online understands that it is being treated as a ‘professional’ job.
Wiltshire Police say this investigation is ongoing and have issued this statement:
“Wiltshire Police received a call at 5.53am on 19 June 2015, following a report that a cash machine had been attacked overnight at the Budgens Store in Hertford Road, Marlborough. The front of the machine was missing, but it is unclear at this stage if money has been taken, and how much.”
“Officers are carrying out a thorough investigation this morning and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area overnight, or who may have heard or seen anything suspicious. Call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.”
Police say they are not able to tell whether this attack is linked to a break-in they attended earlier in the night at the Tesco store – thieves entered the store and stole cigarettes.
