At the beginning of the month many local children started ‘big’ school for the first time – a significant milestone that we all remember. Marlborough.news was invited to Preshute Primary to meet the reception children to find out how they were settling in and what they had been learning.
Reception class teacher, Charlotte Coulson, explained, “There’s been lots of outside play, lots of stories, lots of riding the trikes and bikes as well as cooking in the mud kitchen, making lavender potions and getting to know each other and school routines.”
Reception class children have also been enjoying the company of their Year 6 buddies who have been looking after them at break and lunchtimes.
Charlotte commented, “I love teaching the reception class as there is room for so much creativity and experiential learning. We introduce the children to our school values – Love Learning, Love Life. We are busy exploring the local area of Manton village with a ginger bread man hunt. We will be making gingerbread men, decorating them and eating them. Later in the term a travelling theatre group will be visiting school to perform the story of The Gingerbread Man.”
Preshute Primary School is holding some ‘Stay and Play’ sessions starting on Friday September 26th (see poster for more dates) which are open to all pre-school children. There’s no need to book just come along at 10 am. The ‘Stay and Play’ session on September 26th also features a Macmillan charity coffee morning.
In addition, there is an Open Day on Wednesday October 8th. Visitors are welcome to attend at either 10.30am, 1.30pm or 6.30pm.
