At last there is some good news about Marlborough’s shops in the High Street and beyond – three empty premises are being taken over and will begin trading by the end of the month.
Rohan Outdoor and Travel Clothing, Equipment and Footwear is opening in the former Ducklings Toyshop premises in Hillier’s Yard. Shoppers have been able to source Rohan clothing in Landmark but with a new shop opening there will be a much wider choice.
Rohan announced on Tuesday (May 1): “Exciting news: Our shop in Marlborough is relocating. Rohan within Landmark is now closed. We will be relocating to our own dedicated shop in Hillier’s Yard at the end of May.”
It seems likely that the former FatFace High Street shop will also become a clothing shop – run by a new company – before the end of May. A planning application to make interior alterations to the listed building has been approved by the Town Council.
And the premises that were formerly 100 Chai Street appear to be undergoing some renovations.
Meanwhile a new Italian restaurant is opening at the back of the Town Hall. Taking over from the Mexican restaurant it has been completely refurbished.
Called Sapore D’Italia, their Facebook page announced: “We will be opening our doors on the 10th May!! Come and enjoy some fine dining in our new Italian restaurant! You can book a table by emailing us at bookings@saporemarlborough.co.uk or by calling us on 01672 288771.”
There’s a glass of prosecco on offer on the opening evening. They will be open seven days a week from Noon-2.30pm and 5pm- 11pm.
Back on the High Street, the branch of the troubled estate agents Humberts is expected to remain open.
The Humberts organisation, which has a UK wide network of wholly owned businesses and franchises, has gone into voluntary administration and some members of staff at the Marlborough branch have been made redundant.
