The road running south from the A4 to Clatford will be closed to all vehicles from Monday (January 7) – for six months. This is to enable structural work to be done to Clatford Bridge over the River Kennet.
The bridge was built in 1947 and in the summer of 2010 was declared to be sub-standard for modern traffic loads. The work will involve replacing key parts of the bridge. A temporary pedestrian footbridge will be constructed while the work is underway.
When it was first decided to replace the bridge, Wiltshire Council announced that it would involve the road (known locally as Bayardo Lane) being closed for sixteen weeks.
The route of the bus service connecting Lockeridge and Marlborough will be affected by this closure.
