A runaway wallaby, first seen first seen late on Wednesday hopping in the Elcot Lane area of Marlborough, has been caught by police and returned to its owner, who keeps six of the marsupials on his farm.
The wallaby had hopped some two miles along the London Road before being spotted near Marlborough Town Football Club, the police and RSPCA being called by local residents concerned about its safety.
The Australian animal was eventually cornered in a back garden and its owner called to collect it.
David Tippetts, acting sergeant at Marlborough police station, said: “It’s not causing mayhem or running havoc around Marlborough town centre. It was contained in someone’s back garden.”
