Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) has been summoned to answer an allegation that it failed to provide safe care and treatment resulting in avoidable harm to a patient – contrary to regulations.
AWP is the provider of mental health treatment and care across a wide area – including all Wiltshire.
The prosecution is brought by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an incident in January 2016 when a patient sustained serious injuries during a fall from a roof at Applewood Ward, Sandalwood Court, Highworth Road, Swindon, Wiltshire
By law, registered providers of health and social care services – including NHS trusts – must take all reasonable steps and exercise all due diligence to ensure service users receive safe care and treatment.
AWP’s first appearance to answer the CQC allegation§ was on Monday (May 20) at Bath Magistrates County and Family Court.
