I seem to remember that our (then) Conservative MP, Danny Kruger (now a cuckoo in the nest), stated in the local press that he had spoken to the company behind the Home Bargains stores and had been given an assurance of a reduction in the frequency of their HGVs through East Wiltshire.
His actual reported words were;
“For those on the A338 and A342, specifically, it will mean a reduction from 38 return trips every day to just 9. “This will, I hope, make a huge difference to all those living along this road.
“Overall, 118 routes will be moved north to their new Merseyside depot, so we will see a substantial reduction in Home Bargains lorries across the constituency, particularly in towns like Marlborough which are regularly clogged up with them.”
The date of this report was 20 May 2025, and stated that this will happen “over the summer” although no year was indicated. (Link to the Gazette & Herald report is here.)
Anyone who has had cause to travel any part of the main roads between Swindon and Tidworth, including Marlborough, can be in no doubt that Mr Kruger was misinformed and the frequency of the Home Bargains vehicle movements along this route have in fact increased!
