Sirs,
In support of Alan Oliver’s letter I am always frustrated when there is an unwillingness by the green lobby to acknowledge that the earth has always had “climate change”. We are in an interglacial period between ice ages and in the 1970’s there was alarmist talk by leading scientists that a new ice age was upon us and what were politicians going to do about it!
There is also a reluctance to admit that renewable energy is only a partial solution. At the moment renewables produce about the same amount of electricity as gas generation but the huge problem with wind and sun is that they are unreliable. When there is no wind or sum we rely on gas.
Gas is a transition fuel that is going to be needed for decades to come.
I agree with the concerns in Colin Gratton’s letter about population but we are stuck with the billions in the world and excess population cannot be dealt with simply.
Yours,
David Chandler
