The Milk Yard at Warren Farm, Savernake SN8 3BQ opened today, January 22 and is offering visitors the chance to buy farm fresh pasteurised milk from grass fed cows using a self-service milk vending machine.
Anne Homer, who is in charge of The Milk Yard, with support from her family, told Marlborough.news, “We’d always been interested in some kind of diversification project. Milk vending machines have become increasingly popular and we had a good spot in the farmyard which wasn’t being utilized where we could site them. We have 330 Holstein Friesian cows so we’ll never run out of milk. We’re also offering glass bottles or you can bring your own. There’s no plastic packaging and we’ve made the area Covid safe.”
It’s a real family affair with Anne’s mum and dad, two elder brothers, sisters-in-law and an uncle all working together.
I litre of milk costs £1.20 and 500ml 70p. The reusable and dishwasher safe glass bottles cost £2 for a litre bottle and £1.50 for 500ml. You can of course bring your own bottles.
Anne explained, “The vending machines will be located in an open front lean to, so technically outside undercover, but we would like to encourage people to wear appropriate face coverings, covering mouth and nose, when inside The Milk Yard. We have marked 2m social distancing spots and anti-bac spray for use on the vending machines and hand sanitiser will be available.”
The vending machines are self-service and payment is contactless. Cash and coins are not accepted.
The Milk Yard is open 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm. It is hoped to extend the hours to 7am to 7pm in a few weeks’ time.
