Fifty-two schoolchildren from Marlborough St Mary’s Primary School launched the 2019 Marlborough LitFest with some energetic choreographed dancing – to the delight of many passers by in the High Street.
The pupils were dressed as their favourite characters from books and comics. The event was organised by LitFest committee member Gillian Macdonald.
They danced to that very catchy number by the Black Eyed Peas – I gotta feeling. They danced in three groups – on the Town Hall steps, outside the White Horse Bookshop and outside Barclays Bank.
The celebratory dancing was choreographed by Marlborough St Mary’s teacher Rachel Haines.
And then when it was over, they all assembled on the Town Hall steps and danced again – this time with teachers joining in. I gotta a feeling they may well be dancing to that tune for quite a while.
Before the event and in the presence of the Town Mayor, Councillor Mervyn Hall, the children marked Marlborough LitFest’s tenth birthday with cupcakes iced with a bold figure 10 and a birthday cake. And, of course, they sang Happy Birthday to the LitFest.
