Sunday afternoon at The Priory was opened by one of Marlborough’s up-and-coming stars, Ben Cipolla, now rapidly becoming established on the national stage but still always ready to return to his Marlborough roots. This afternoon it was a solo session.
So the inaugral Marlborough Rising has drawn to a close. A wide range of excellent acts – a mix of established national names with talented local performers across the whole spectrum of popular music – from the West End (Musical Time Machine) through jazz/blues fusion (Pete Gage), classic French chanson of Edith Piaf (Tina May), celtic rock (The Roving Crows), popular indie of Scouting for Girls to the hard rocking blues of Turin Breaks and Barrelhouse. And plenty more to savour.
All those fortunate enough to have been in any of the audiences for any of the performances will be back for next year, there were no acts that didn’t live up to billing and musically it was a great and entertaining weekend.
Thanks to Robin Pritchard and the team for giving Marlborough a new and exciting addition to the town’s calendar – roll on Marlborough Rising 2019…….
