To mark their long record organising these lunches, Mayor Marian Hannaford-Dobson presented Joy and Nigel Kerton with a certificate and a crystal paper weight
engraved with the town’s coat of arms. She made the presentation on behalf of the Town Council in recognition of the outstanding work they and their helpers have done over the years in organising the Christmas Lunch in the Town Hall.
This was the eleventh year they have organised this event and Mayor Marian Hannaford-Dobson and her husband were on hand to lend a hand and to chat with the pensioners. It was a full turkey with all the trimmings lunch cooked on the Town Hall’s ‘museum-worthy’ stove and oven.
As Marlborough News Online has reported, thanks to generous benefactors – including Waitrose and the family of the late Robert Hill – the lunch is set fair with assured funding for another three or four years – providing someone can be found who will take over the organisation of this event.
A special treat for the pensioners this year was two £100 prizes in the raffle in memory of Anne Harley (a stalwart helper at the lunch for many years and who died in April) and Robert Hill who died in July.
