‘BREATH OF SPRING’, a Marlborough Players production at the Town Hall
1 April 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 11:59 pm
If winter seems to be dragging on yet summer seems a long way off then fear not, the Marlborough Players has the solution with their next production “A Breath of Spring”, a comedy by Peter Coke.
Set in the roaring 1920’s this madcap romp introduces us to formidable Dame Beatrice Appleby, forced to live in reduced circumstances in her apartment with three cantankerous lodgers: an elocution coach, a china repairer and a Brigadier, all retired and all also lacking in the lolly!
After the quartet are joined by failed gambler, Lady Alice Miller, they hit upon a scheme to raise money for fellow ‘distressed gentlefolk’ and so begins an ingenious operation to bring in the loot. Organised in military fashion by the Brigadier, their activities move to an even more professional level after they are discovered by the Dame’s maid – an ex-Holloway inmate! All appears to be going well until an Inspector from Scotland Yard gets a whiff of their shenanigans!
Can these respectable gentlefolk give up their life of crime and avoid the inevitable consequences? Come along to Marlborough Town Hall to find out!
Directed by David Sherratt “A Breath of Spring” will play at Marlborough Town Hall from 29th March to 1st April. Performances start at 7:30pm
