‘Bothered & Bewildered’ – Marlborough Players at the Town Hall

20 November 2024 @ 7:30 pm

This year’s Marlborough Player’s November production is playwright Gail Young’s comedy-drama “Bothered & Bewildered”. ALL profits from the production will be divided between the Alzheimer’s Society & Prospect Hospice

“Bothered & Bewildered” deals sensitively with the difficult subject of dementia. As her family slowly comes to terms with her Alzheimer’s, Irene blurs reality with her passion for romantic literature. She spends hours discussing how best to write her ‘memory book’ with her imaginary friend, none other than the world famous (but deceased!) romantic novelist Barbara Cartland. In doing so she inadvertently discloses long-kept family secrets that she would never normally have divulged to her daughters Beth and Louise.

“1 in 3 people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime* but all too often the realities of the condition remain hidden behind closed doors.” Said director Tony Michael, “This funny but thought-provoking play deals sensitively with the difficulties and frustrations that can arise when caring for someone with dementia, but also depicts moments of real humour, compassion, and tenderness. We hope our audiences will enjoy the production and help us support the two very worthy causes – the Prospect Hospice and The Alzheimer’s Society”
