A record £1,200 was raised bythe Friends of Kennet Valley School at the Summer Fair held on Friday, June 7 in Kennet Valley Village Hall. The money will be added to the fund which is being used to upgrade the school playground and equipment.
The Fair opened with a lively maypole dancing performance. Pupils wove their maypole ribbons skilfully in time to the Archers’ theme tune – Barwick Green. A bouncy castle, scoop a duck, face painting, sweet shop, tombola, raffle and more activities kept everyone entertained.
Refreshments were provided at the bar and barbecue. Teachers from The Slater Music School, who provide music lessons for students at Kennet Valley School, performed. This was followed by music students demonstrating their skills on the drums and ukulele.
The afternoon ended with a performance from ‘BOJ’, a St John’s School band and ‘For One Night Only’, a dads’ band. Both bands encouraged the crowd to dance to popular tunes.
Becky Tilley is Chair of the Friends of Kennet Valley School: “A huge thank you to everyone for coming as well as to all those who helped with all the preparation and tidy up. This includes baking, putting up marquees (in the rain) and donating prizes.”
