Marlborough & District Rotary Club collected £3,500 for the Julia’s House Hospice in Devizes in the run-up to Christmas from street collections in Marlborough and Pewsey. Hospices are all heavily reliant on the funds that they can generate directly and the funds that teams like our Rotary group can go and raise on their behalf.
Julia’s House Hospice is there for those terminally ill children, for those with severely life limiting medical conditions and for their families. They provide a vital resource.
Only about 4% of their income from the Government, hence the importance of Marlborough & District Rotary Club and other groups and their fundraising efforts.
It’s ironic that the NHS is seen as a ‘cradle to grave’ service for us all. In many respects it is, but somehow whilst the start of life is served with fully funded maternity and neonatal facilities, at the other end the Hospices only receive small amounts for what is a vitally important, emotional and inevitable part of the circle of our lives, however long or short that life may be. They exist, primarily due to what we donate and what they are able to raise. That’s what makes the support delivered by organisations such as the Marlborough & District Rotary Club so necessary and welcome.
This £3,500 is a significant sum of money, and the Rotary Club thanks very much the many people who donated for their generous contributions.
