Excalibur Academies Trust’s CEO, Nicky Edmondson has announced she will be stepping down from her role at the end of the school year. She has spent 5 years as CEO of Excalibur and was previously Principal of St John’s Academy for 3 years. The Trust was founded in 2012 by Patrick Hazlewood (former St John’s Principal and CEO) with just one primary and one secondary school. Since then the Trust has grown steadily, welcoming five schools from the Bristol area following the merger with Gatehouse Green Learning Trust last September. Excalibur now serves 10,000 young people, age 2 to 18 across five local authorities.
Nicky commented, “It is with a mixture of emotions that I have decided to step away from my role in order to spend more time with my family and to focus on other passions and interests. I have been privileged to work with a team of such dedicated, talented and compassionate colleagues whom I will miss very much.
On the flip side, it is a time of optimism and promise for Excalibur, as we are on the search for a new CEO who shares a similar vision and determination to lead the Trust through its next exciting chapter. The Board of Trustees and Central Leadership are in agreement that my successor will have a substantial background in education, with a strong vision, energy and determination to continue delivering excellent education to all the children in our care.”
Toby Watson, Chair of Trustees, added, “Nicky has been a phenomenal CEO. She has led Excalibur with conviction, enthusiasm and integrity – our core principles – throughout a period of strong growth. Excalibur has continued to provide an excellent education for all the children in our care. We look forward to recruiting and working with the successful candidate in a smooth transition ready for the new era in September 2024.”
