West Overton resident given 30 month driving ban following drink drive arrest

A woman has been banned from driving for 30 months after she pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Anne Peel, 47, of West Overton, appeared in court yesterday (Thursday 11 August) after she was arrested on May 27.

A member of the public called 999 to report concerns regarding the manner in which a Ford Focus was being driven on the A4 towards Marlborough. Peel was identified as the driver and officers attended her home address where she was driving to at the time.

Peel appeared intoxicated but refused a breath test, so was arrested and taken to custody, where she provided a breath sample test, which showed she had 126 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

In court, she was given a 30 month disqualification, a community order to comply with alcohol abstinence for 120 days, rehabilitation activity requirement and fined £120.

PC Alexandra Way said: “Firstly we’d like to thank the vigilant member of the public who initially reported their concerns around Peel’s driving – we are always out and about patrolling our road network but we cannot be everywhere at once so we always appreciate reports from the public.

“When officers arrested Peel, she was clearly intoxicated and in no fit state to have been driving. Drinking alcohol before driving seriously impairs your ability to react quickly and safely. I am pleased that a lengthy driving ban has been given on this occasion.”
