The roads affected are St Martins – the road to the right as you go up the hill past the Green – where Barn Street turns into Herd Street. And Sandown – the cul de sac that turns off St Martins at its eastern end. St Martins is, of course, the main access route from Marlborough to Mildenhall and beyond.
However careful the contractors are in allowing access, this work is almost bound to affect south-to-north and north-to-south traffic through Marlborough along the A346.
The work is planned to start on Monday, December 1 and last until the afternoon of Friday, December 5. Working hours will be 7.00am to 7.00pm in Sandown, and 9.30am to 3.30pm in St Martins.
Motorists will be able to get in and out of the roads, but there may be delays. And vehicles will not be allowed on the new surface until it has set.
The contractors urge people to take extra care that children and pets are kept away from the working areas.
Bad weather may cause some changes to the working dates and times. But there will be no work done at weekends. Residents in the two roads have been warned about these works.
Follow-on work to replace road markings and adjust ‘ironwork’ (drain covers etc) will not require road closures.
Motorists may have to be patient for a while, but they will know from bitter experience how necessary major repairs to St Martins have become.
