The A4 going west from Marlborough was closed for three nights to allow vital resurfacing work between the College and the Manton turning. This closure began on the night of Thursday, October 30.
An overnight diversion was put in place taking drivers wanting to continue westwards up Granham Hill and along the A345 on the ‘country route’.
This photograph of the sign in George Lane at the foot of Granham Hill was taken at 7.20am on the morning of Sunday, November 9. The sign has remained in position all through the day for most of the past week.
How many drivers wanting to take the A4 through Marlborough and on to Devizes, Calne and Chippenham have been sent completely unnecessarily along dangerously narrow and sometimes flooded back roads, when the A4 has been open to traffic?
Of course, drivers used to Wiltshire Council’s way with road signs, will have doubtless ignored the diversion signs altogether.
