Traffic chaos returned to Marlborough yesterday (Monday) lunchtime after a lorry became stuck on the road out of town towards Swindon, and had to reverse back to the bottom of the hill.
Police oversaw the operation, which involved an articulated lorry belonging to the Romanian logistics firm Honold reverse down Barn Street to the junction of New Road and London Road.
It is believed the driver had to stop at the pedestrian crossing halfway up the hill, at the intersection of Barn Street, Herd Street and St Martins, and was unable to gather the momentum to move off again.
Traffic was held up for 20 minutes, causing considerable delays.
