A near head-on collision between a bus and a car at a notoriously dangerous ‘black spot’ spot on the main road through Lockeridge caused the road to be closed this morning (Wednesday 7 January). A coach/motorhome and a small passenger car collided on the twist between Overton Road and Ivy Lane. Thankfully no apparent injury but significant damage to each of the vehicles involved.

Tricky conditions, black ice underfoot where rain had frozen on the road, no more than 50m from the Kennet Valley School, it’s a regular spot for collisions. “It’s the third crash in recent months” said local resident, Bruce Thomas. He was lucky as he’d parked his car outside his house and the ‘coach’ missed the car by inches.
There is now a 20mph limit through the village which is observed by many drives as the local Community Speedwatch team will confirm, although they do pick up a significant number of drivers ignoring this limit, and also many cyclists who whizz through silently but at speeds easily exceeding 30mph. This location has seen many such accidents over recent years, even one fatal accident where a dog walker was knocked over at a point where there was no pavement.
