Former councillor Chris Humphries dies

Chris Humphries who lived in Aldbourne, died earlier this week while in Thailand.  He was in his early seventies.

He served the area as a councillor for forty-three years – starting out as an Aldbourne Parish councillor in 1970.  He was a councillor on the old Kennet District Council – and its Leader from 2001 to 2007.  He served as a Wiltshire Councillor – on both county and unitary councils – for sixteen years as a Conservative.

After the formation of the unitary Wiltshire Council in 2009, he was the first Chairman of the Marlborough Area Board.

In 2012 he was censured by Wiltshire Council after complaints from a female member of staff and was then suspended by his local Conservative party.  He stood unsuccessfully as an Independent in the Council elections of 2013.
