Further changes are being made to the multi-million pound development of a 64-bed care and dementia home and 28 assisted living spaces on the former Wiltshire Council depot site in Salisbury Road, Marlborough.
They affect the amount of parking on site following objections from Marlborough Town Council’s planning committee and fears that sewage flooding may occur because of the lack of an adequate sewer system for the development.
The changes were revealed on Monday by planning committee chairman Councillor Mervyn Hall, who told councillors: “Since the last meeting Wiltshire Council’s planning officers have informed us that further adjustments have now been made to the application. These are around the number of parking spaces.
“Thames Water are now satisfied with the amendments and planning permission conditions, the ground water conditions that have now been applied for and the developer has accepted them.”
He pointed out that Councillor Stewart Dobson, one of Marlborough’s two county councillors, had now decided not to “call in” the application, but added: “However, our objections to the scheme still stands.
“There is some disquiet too about the growing proliferation of care homes and housing for the elderly in the town when a lot of people really want housing for young people.”
