Jane Palmer is Assistant County Commissioner for Cubs: “The main aim of the day was to teach new skills and for the cubs to have fun, enjoy themselves and to meet cubs from the rest of the county.”
The activities included: making a catapult machine out of poles and ropes, tying knots, making origami birds and animals, mop football and outdoor challenge activities such as backwoods cooking.
The cubs, boys and girls aged between eight and ten and a half, also learnt about the foodbank and different religions as well as how to carry out day to day activities such as changing a light bulb and sewing on a button.
The roundabout of activities was designed to help the cubs achieve particular challenge badges which count towards the Silver Cub Award for scouting.
Over one hundred adult volunteers helped the day run smoothly.
Jane Palmer told Marlborough.news: “It was a very successful day enjoyed by all, despite the weather!”
