2nd Marlborough Scouts have raised £6,400 from their spectacular Leap Ball event, held on Saturday February 29 in Marlborough Town Hall. The money raised will be used towards the £10,000 cost of improving disabled access to the Scout Hut on George Lane.
Derek Baker, Chairman of 2nd Marlborough Scouts, told Marlborough.news, “It was an amazingly successful event and I would like to publicly thank the Mayor for his generous support, the companies and people who donated to the auction, the people who bought tickets and attended and of course the fund raising committee team who did a brilliant job.
We are proud to be an inclusive group and strive to provide equal opportunities to all. We are passionate about improving the disabled access to the hut so we can truly make it available to everyone and the money raised will make a significant step towards making this a reality.”
As one of the Mayor’s selected charities the Scouts were offered the free use of the Town Hall for a day. As well as the Leap Ball, they also organised a tea and cake sale during the day which raised £370.
Ninety-three people attended the Leap Ball and enjoyed a three course dinner, provided by Sue Brady Catering, with entertainment by a local Marlborough band – The Monkey Dolls.
The gifts donated to the auction included a polar bear, donated by Mayor Mervyn Hall. This was a star attraction and hotly bid for! Other items donated included: a group wine tasting experience, restaurant vouchers, music festival tickets, scuba diving, personal training and vouchers for family days out.
“It was all excellent fun and we’ve had very good feedback,” commented Derek.
