Yesterday evening (Tuesday 1 September) at around 10.30pm officers attended a report of a disorder in Garside Way during which one of the men involved was stabbed.
The man, aged in his 30s, remains in hospital with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man who is known to the victim, suffered reportedly minor injuries.
He has been arrested on suspicion of affray, grievous bodily harm with intent, assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage. He remains in custody for questioning.
A scene was put in place to allow for immediate enquiries to take place and has since been lifted.
Investigating officer DS Andrew Morley from Central CID said: “I appreciate the concern this incident may cause in the community, however please be assured that this is thought to be an isolated incident between two men who know each other.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the incident, and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the disorder or the build up to it.
“We are also keen to hear from anyone who visited The Pelican Inn in Froxfield and witnessed anything suspicious, as it is understood that the men involved were there earlier in the evening.”
