Starting on Sunday January 25 there will be three ‘Plant-Based Markets’ taking place in the High Street, subject to the OK from Wiltshire Council. Kordia Ltd, who run such markets in other towns around the country – Chippenham, Abingdon and Wallingford in this area – have submitted a detailed application for this programme of events. The Planning Committee of the Town Council voted unanimously to approve so now it’s up to Wiltshire.
The plans are for each market to comprise maybe 25-30 vendors’ stalls between the Town Hall end of the central High St area down to beyond Waitrose, where the natural gap is. The same area as that taken by a healthy Saturday market. Kordia’s application describes the objectives for the events as being to ‘raise awareness of plant-based living’. The emphasis will be on local, and they will be looking to support local vendors. Each market will be ‘a vibrant community experience with plant-based food, live demonstrations and eco-friendly product showcases’.
As well as the January market, Kordia have applied for the Sunday 31st May and again 15 November as Plant-Based Market Days.
