On Friday next week (14 February) Lockeridge will have it’s own Police Station – for a couple of hours. Other villages around the Marlborough area will have their own Police Station for a while next week as well – see below for dates / times / locations.
Wiltshire Police has suffered over recent years due to austerity and general cuts to spending by central Government. This has impacted on our county in many ways. The force is here to protect us, the community as ultimately it’s us that will suffer if the Police Force is not able to provide for whatever reason the standard and level of service that is required.
The Wiltshire Force had been put in ‘Special Measures’, but this is now thankfully consigned to history as over the past year or so great efforts have been made to bring the level of service back to where it should be, in spite of the financial pressures.
One impact of the cuts had been the disappearance of many physical ‘Police Stations’ in numerous areas of the Force’s area (our own such building in George Lane has now been unused for many years), but one small (but innovative and effective) way to restore Police presence is a Mobile Police Station.
And next week, on Friday (14 Feb), Lockeridge will have it’s own Police Station between 1pm and 2pm, and then between 3pm and 4pm.
Officers from Devizes and Marlborough will be manning the Mobile Police Station and residents are encouraged to pop in, have a chat with the team, and share any concerns they may have about crime in their community.
And it won’t be just Lockeridge. In our area the Mobile Police Station will be in Ham, Little Bedwyn, Mildenhall and Preshute as well. The schedule of days / times of the visits to all locations is below:
