Kennet Valley School have donated a staggering 495 food and toiletry items to the Trussell Trust Food Bank in Devizes. The items were collected through the school’s ‘Reverse Twelve Days of Christmas’ scheme. Instead of opening an advent calendar and receiving a gift the children are encouraged to donate an item.
This is the third year that the school has been running the reverse advent calendar scheme. The children, parents and local residents all responded amazingly well, very quickly filling twelve baskets to be passed on to the Trussell Trust. Impressively, 151 more items were collected this year than last year.
Emma Russell, Headteacher at Kennet Valley School, said, “Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration, but unfortunately for many people, especially with the difficulties of this year, it is becoming increasingly difficult, with more people than ever expected to need to use a food bank during the festive period.
This is precisely why the Kennet Valley community have come together, as we feel that it is important that we all understand that there are people less fortunate than ourselves, and that we should all do our bit to try and help where we can, especially at this special time of the year”.
