For those of you who have always wanted to try tennis but have never known where to begin, Marlborough Tennis now has the answer, Tennis Xpress.
“We have lots of players who come to the club with either a little or a lot of tennis playing experience and we have lots of coaching options designed around them,” says Marlborough Tennis Head Coach Neil Watts, “but what we haven’t had, until now, is a course aimed at adult (16+) tennis virgins, those people who would regard themselves as beginners and are keen to try out our fabulous sport. Tennis Xpress is very much for them. Tennis Xpress is also well suited to anyone who would regard themselves as extremely rusty and played many years ago, perhaps as a youngster.”
Tennis Xpress addresses all the basic skills required to play tennis and it is a chance to meet other similar standard players whilst having fun getting to grips with the game. “We find new players sometimes struggle with those first steps towards playing tennis. They often lack the confidence to get on court hitting balls,” says Neil, “because they fear of playing against players who have already mastered the basics. Well, the good news is that Tennis Xpress is a safe environment in which to start playing tennis because everyone will be in the same position.”
Tennis Xpress is taught by LTA accredited Marlborough Tennis coaches and runs for 6 one hour sessions on a Saturday morning at Marlborough Tennis from 10am, starting 27th September. The course covers all the essentials such as the forehand, backhand, serving, rallying and scoring. “By the end of the 6 weeks we want to leave you with the skills necessary to be able to play confidently and regularly,” adds Neil.

Marlborough Tennis – the LTA’s Club of the Year 2025 – is also hosting an Open Evening on Friday September 26th from 6-8pm and anyone thinking of joining the club is welcome to attend. The evening consists of an hour of tennis from 6-7pm followed by drinks in the new clubhouse through to 8pm. “We are throwing our doors open to anyone who would like to play tennis on a regular basis, wants to join a club to be able to do so, and who may not know what the club has to offer” says Membership Team member Peter May. “This is a great opportunity to come along, play tennis and find out what makes us the LTAs Club of the Year”. And to complete a busy month for Marlborough Tennis, the club is holding its Championship Finals Day on Saturday 13th September from 11am to 5pm. If you want to see some highly competitive, top quality tennis being played why not go along to watch. As well as the tennis, there will be lots of food and drinks available.
