At Pewsey Primary School activities for World Book Day, Thursday March 6, lasted all week. Central to the fun was the annual Bedtime Stories event which was held on the eve of World Book Day from 5.30 to 6.30pm. The children came into school in their pyjamas with their slippers, blankets and cuddly toys in readiness for bedtime stories and hot chocolate by a cosy virtual fire!
Various competitions were held during the week and included ‘The Masked Reader.’ Pupils were invited to watch a video the school had posted online and to identify the 20 staff members who appeared reading in the video. A prize was awarded to the winner.
On World Book Day, itself the children and staff dressed up as their favourite characters and had lots of fun participating in live lessons, completing the Blue Peter book badge applications and other reading related activities.
Other activities during the week included a book stall of donated books for children to take home. The ‘Extreme Reading’ activity involved taking a photo reading somewhere fun, different or a little extreme. The photos were posted on the school Facebook page and around the school. The children were also encouraged to recommend books that they had read from the KS2 Reading Challenge list by writing a post-it review.
In addition the PTA funded Story Explorer Workshops.
Bex Murray, Year 4 Teacher/Assistant Headteacher said, “What a fantastic week. The children were also very lucky to take home a physical book instead of a voucher, courtesy of the wonderful Devizes Books.
