On Friday of last week the Court Room of the Town Hall was full of stylish clothing, some new, some nearly new but all donated for an excellent cause – the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust.
The Trust was honoured by the presence of Lady Lansdowne, High Sheriff of Wiltshire at the Marlborough Town Hall sale. Marlborough’s Mayor Nick Fogg accompanied his wife (and former Mayor) Edwina to this infamous extravaganza of excellent clothes at remarkable prices. Overall the day raised an estimated total of well over £3,500 to help fund ongoing services that the Bobby Van Trust provides to Wiltshire’s most vulnerable.
Jennie Shaw , Director of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust says , “we have held our clothes sales for 12 years now , they started off at my home and now we run three a year , one in Marlborough, one in Quemerford at Wellington Barn and one in Mere. We are extremely fortunate and are able to offer couture and designer clothes plus everyday wear . They have become an important part of our fund raising calendar . If you would like more details please email susanna@wbvt.org “
“Clothes are constantly being restocked as those that aren’t sold are donated onto Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Services for their retail shop in Swindon, so no donation is wasted and that is very important to me and we are also proud to be playing our part for the environment in preventing increased landfill.”
“I must thank all our wonderful volunteers whom without this wouldn’t be possible “. The event is a prime example of, Volunteering is Fun! Perhaps you would like to join us next year?
The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust is set up to help elderly or vulnerable people who have been victims of, or are considered to be at risk of, house crime, hate crime, domestic abuse or fire. They work closely with Wiltshire Police to provide a home security service for elderly and vulnerable people throughout Wiltshire. In 2017, they launched their ‘Stay Safe Online’ initiative, to provide a service to vulnerable adults by helping improve digital security awareness, scam prevention advice, support and reassurance and digital advice. The service offers one-to-one home visits and community group talks, and is managed by a dedicated Stay Safe Online Coordinator.
