As your Wiltshire Councillor for Marlborough West I attended a marathon twelve-hour full Council session yesterday. These meetings are where all 98 Wiltshire Councillors can vote on policy and motions which decide how Wiltshire Council runs its services (subject to compliance with national legislation).
Something that has annoyed me in the two years since it was introduced is the zero tolerance policy on fly posting. This policy had the good intention to keep our beautiful streets tidy and safer by keeping them free from commercial posting. However, it has caught out our much-loved local events and charity fundraisers meaning organisers were forced to apply for permission through a confusing and bureaucratic process. Church and school posters have been taken down and lovely people threatened with punitive fines. This is not acceptable.
Therefore, I worked with Councillor Allison Bucknell, Lyneham Division, to take a motion to Council yesterday to have the policy amended. I am delighted councillors voted to support the policy to be fully reviewed!
I will continue to work hard to support our wonderful residents who give their time organising the local events we enjoy so much and raise much needed funds for local charities.
Yours,
Jane Davies
