Parking:
The Common is used by many different clubs and groups, who regularly need this space to park. This is permitted parking allowed by Marlborough Town Council, who are the custodians of the Common on behalf of the residents.
The varied use can be detrimental to the ground’s ‘health’, particularly parking during wet conditions which causes rutting. The rutting not only damages the ground but also presents a risk to other users.
In order to alleviate the impact of parking and keep the ground at its best, for the benefit of all interest groups, matting has been laid to create more resilient parking spaces. In addition, towards the south-east section of the Common, a large area has a hard standing sub layer.
The diagram below shows the area (marked in orange) that is allocated for parking.
As Marlborough Rugby Club is a major user of the common it is important we strictly adhere to this guidance.
If heavy or awkward equipment is required as part of training or a match, access is allowed to drop the equipment off. The vehicle must then be returned to the orange section of the common.
Please note: The carpark at the clubhouse, on match days is reserved for clubhouse staff, disabled bays prebooked vehicles, all other traffic must park The Common.
We also advise not to park on Free’s Avenue. There is ample room on the common. It is important to keep Free’s Avenue clear for traffic and not to disrupt the visibility of pedestrians crossing the road.
Please do not ignore or drive around the NO PARKING signs and cones.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
