I was very sorry to receive news today that Carer Support Wiltshire have decided to close their charity. They have been an incredible support to many of the unpaid carers who do so much and give so much to others. I know that many people locally will no doubt be upset by this news and concerned about where to get advice and support. I am aware that Carers Together Wiltshire run monthly carer cafe’s on the 4th Thursday of the month, 10.30am-12 noon at St Peter’s Church cafe. Carers Together can also offer support and advice, including carer’s assessments which ensure you as carer get the support you are entitled to receive. Lots of advice and contact details are available on their website.

It’s worth remembering that approximately 5.8 million people in the uk are unpaid carers and their voluntary roles save the UK economy an estimated £162 billion per annum. Sometimes people don’t recognise they are unpaid carers, they may be looking after a relative, a neighbour or friend. Carers can be any age. There is support for carers because it is recognised how much they do for others and that this takes up their own time.
